Priory Bay Hotel adds designer camping to its portfolio of accommodation
Making the most of its unique environment and spearheading the trend of luxury hotels introducing "glamping" facilities, Priory Bay now offers luxury designer camping in specially designed Island-crafted yurts. Furnished with luxury accessories and furniture (predominately made on the Isle of Wight), each yurt is styled by a different designer, creating their own dream environment at “the country house hotel by the sea”.
Priory Bay hotel’s magical setting, above the sheltered sandy Priory Bay beach, offers guests the opportunity to get closer to nature in spectacular surroundings. Each yurt will be discreetly placed in a woodland clearing with either dramatic Solent views (across the golf coastal estate and out to sea) or a magnificent vista through leafy woodland boughs to the beach.
Traditionally providing warm dwellings for Mongolian tribes on the Steppes of Central Asia, these tented structures have recently been adapted by the I Love Wight Yurt Company, using contemporary laminates and materials.
Available until the end of September 2011 (then open from 25 May to 30 September 2012), the yurts offer a new form of designer camping which is “so much more comfortable than glamping”.
Each yurt is entered through a stylish stable door with French windows opening out onto a small secluded terrace with spectacular views – guests can enjoy lazing amongst dappled trees in their own private glade, inhaling the fresh sea air. Spacious in size, each yurt is 20 feet in diameter and furnished with a king size bed (with luxury cotton linen), sofas, bean bags, soft lighting, accessories and exterior candelit lanterns. The ensuite bathroom comes complete with overhead shower or roll top bath… and flushing loo. Priory Bay yurts offer the ultimate in seaside eco-camping.
For nature lovers Priory Bay is a haven for wildlife, flora and fauna. As guests fall asleep listening to the wind in the trees and waves gently breaking on the beach, they might hear noctural creatures exploring their natural habitat - maybe the hoot of an owl, the bark of a fox or badgers foraging - or experience a dramatic Island sunrise. Priory Bay’s grasslands are also a visual feast for lovers - peppered with rare flora and fauna. While the estate offers the opportunity to spy red squirrels (indigenous to the Island), spot butterflies, dragonflies and birds of prey - such as buzzards, kestrels and sparrow hawks - circling in the sky.
Guests staying in the yurts can also enjoy the hotel's full facilities. Prices: £200 - £250 per night inclusive of bed and full English breakfast at the hotel.
